Movies That I've Seen Recently

Some Movies

I'm going to be honest, I've been forgetting to blog about the movies I watch. It's because I'm watching too many movies and I'm too lazy to write about them. I say that I watch too many movies, but the truth is I don't watch enough, I try to watch a movie every day, but lately I haven't been pulling that off. So what I'm trying to say is that I watch too many movies to write about consistently, but not enough for me to keep watching new things. Anyway here's a list of every movie I've seen since the 22nd of February.

Dr No - 22 February

The first James Bond movie, it's also the first movie that I just decided to write down. This movie is pretty good, I watched it because my friend's dad was giving me a rant about how this is the only true James Bond movie. All of the other 007 movies are based on commercialism and action rather than the source material ((apparently)). But yeah, it was quite a good movie and it definitely was slightly more gritty and serious than a lot of the other movies in the franchise.

Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse - 22 February

This one had a lot of style. That's really it, there's so much going on visually, it's so exciting to watch.

Apocalypse Now - 23 February

I watched this one because of my friend's dad as well. He was drunk one night and was just telling me about, the movies that I "need to watch". He even gave me a copy of Battleship Potekmin, the movie we watched in class today and told me that I need to watch it. I'll get around to it at some point. Anyway, back to Apocalypse now, it was great. A fantastic and genuine representation of the human morale. There's so much depressing stuff in this movie and so much beautiful stuff, I agree with Johnathan on this one, it really was a movie that I "needed to watch".

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - 23 February

This one was fun, it's a western anthology, some of the shorts were lame, like the one with Liam Neeson, but others were fantastic, like the first one, the gold digging one and the pan one. All of the shorts are so different, ranging from comedic to sincere, there's a lot of good stuff in there, even if two of the shorts were kind of lame. God damn, I loved the gold digging short, there was some beautiful stuff in there.

Money Heist (Series) - 24 February to 3 March

This one is a show, but I spent a lot of time watching this so I'm mentioning it anyway. It's a legitimately great Heist drama, great characters, great mystery and great story. I usually get bored with TV shows because I don't have the attention span to watch the same thing over multiple sittings, you know I just like to watch something once then forget about it, but this kept me engaged for the entire run of the show.

The Harder They Come  - 24 February

I watched this one for the music, and it really did have some great music. The movie itself was pretty good, with a nice story about a guy who gets nowhere in the music industry, then becomes a criminal instead. The cinematography is real simple and there really isn't much to it, but if anything that helps the feel of the movie, being a low budget film about some poor guy trying to find his big break. It really gets quite emotional at the end there as well.

Robcop - 1 March

Gotta love it. Good violence, good satire. What more can I say?

The Animatrix - 5 March

I'm already getting bored writing so much at this point, so I'm just going to say that everything I said about The Ballad of Buster Scruggs also applies here. Each animated short had so much style and was so unique, but a couple of them fell flat. It's interesting to me though, because I thought the worst ones were the first and last. It was like eating a great sandwich with bad bread.

Captain Marvel - 6 March

Meh. It was alright I guess.

Crank: High Voltage - 8 March

I've seen this movie about six times at this point. It never gets old. I always show it to people to see what sort of reactions I get, it's a lot of fun.

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 - 8 March

I've seen this one a few times too, it's not a good movie, but it's good to make fun of. I showed this one to the same group of friends I watched Crank with. What we did was watched the movie and listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at the same time. It's the ultimate display of irony, to listen to that 'intellectual' album and watch Mall Cop 2. It's so dumb, but I always have the time of my life doing it.

Meet The Feebles - 10 March

Early Peter Jackson movies are the best. There's so much disgusting stuff going on in this movie, some of it is legitimately disturbing to the point of being depressing. It always amazes me how this man is a knight now. I love it.

The Warrior King - 11 March

Man loses elephant - Man gets revenge. It's a simple revenge story, but the fights in this movie are fantastic, it's a classic martial arts movie, our guy standing in the middle of a circle, effortlessly knocking down hundreds of extras. Get this, he even fights one guy in a building that's not only flooded, but also on fire. It's awesome.

Beautiful Girls - 13 March

Of all the movies I've watched recently, this is the surprise standout. A movie about a guy who goes back to his home town for his high school reunion and learns a lot about life. This movie has a lot to say, it's funny, it's sad, it's extremely genuine. It really is sad that movies like these don't get talked about much. I'd never heard of this movie and the only reason I even watched it was because a band I like wrote a song for the soundtrack. Of all the movies on this list, this is probably the one that deserves to be talked about more.

Martin  - 15 March

I'd seen this one before, but it never hurts to watch it again. An almost undiscovered George A Romero classic. It's also kind of sad that people only talk about his zombie movies when he's done some fantastic work on other stuff. This is a coming of age vampire movie about a creepy guy who may or may not actually be a vampire coming to terms with his life. It's such a and original great take on the vampire genre.

Akira - 16 March

I'd also seen this one before. It's an absolute classic, a must watch for anyone interested in animation. Revolutionary stuff.

Tetsuo: Body Hammer - 17 March

Man turns into gun. This is an extremely weird Japanese movie, it's so much fun, nothing makes much sense as we follow our guy through his family drama as he slowly turns into a living weapon.

Roma - 17 March

I finally finished Roma, it was nice. Just a good story about a maid girl. The visuals in this movie are stunning.
