THE OCEAN
The theme for my presentation is the ocean, I'm going to be focusing on three specific things; Sunken Cities, A Rough day at Sea and Mysterious Creatures.
I'm inspired by Ween's nautical themed album The Mollusk, every track on this album focuses on some different part of the ocean. The title track, The Mollusk is a fun song about a creature who crawls from the sea and tells strange omens, the album is filled with strange sea chanteys that make you feel like a pirate, there are also darker songs like Cold Blows the wind about a man who loses his wife.
In all, this album perfectly shows everything I want to say about the ocean, from the weird and wonderful creatures like The Mollusk and The Golden Eel who emerge from the sea to "Speak the truth from the bank." to the melancholic beauty of It's Gonna Be and the psychedelic absurdity of Mutilated Lips or even just the exciting journey shown in Ocean Man.
That's what it's all about.
My presentation on The Ocean focuses on all of the absurd aspects of the ocean. The sadness that comes with living on the sea, away from everything. The danger of the ocean itself, not just the things in it, all of the storms and the giant waves. Even after the storm, the ocean offers beauty, seeing the sun rise again, with clear skies, life keeps moving forwards. The adventures to be had on an ocean backdrop are immeasurable and the ocean goes much deeper than we can imagine. There are so many wonderful creatures to be discovered and so many stories to tell, no matter what they're about.
The sunken cities show the destruction that the ocean can bring, but I also want to highlight the serenity of the ocean, after the a city has long since gone under, it's filled with as much life as ever. Schools of fish swimming peacefully in their new home, predators lurking, coral growing, life goes on.
With the topic of A Rough Day at Sea, I again want to highlight the dangers of the ocean, yet also the calm after the storm, there's clearly a common theme here.
And the mysterious creatures are the same, they could be anything from huge, dangerous sharks to the calm and beautiful groups of glowing jellyfish floating with the current and without a thought in the world.
