Movies This Week #3

Apologies, It's been more than a month since I've done my "weekly" movie blogpost. Anyway, here's all the stuff I missed. Also, sorry if the first few movies on the list have short reviews, I saw them a while back.

Leviathan - 3 April 2019

A Russian movie where lots of stuff happens. There's a lot of drama in this movie and it's all genuinely quite interesting, but it can be a little dull sometimes.

Lost in Translation - 3 April 2019

This is a nice, wholesome slice of life type movie about a elebrity on a buisness trip to Japan, not much happens, but it was quite sweet and had a nice ending.

Belle de Jour - 5 April 2019

You know how it is with these saucy French movies.

Cinema Paradiso - 6 April 2019

A fantastic Italian movie about movies. It really shows the beauty cinema through the eyes of a little kid who grows up learning how to be a projectionalist. It's got that beautiful Ennio Morricone score that I love and great themes as well as the most  wholesome kissing montage. Good stuff.

Kiss of the Spiderwoman - 7 April 2019

A movie about a gay guy in prison. There are lots of twists in this one and its a great time even though its set in one cell for the majority of the film.

The Room -  7  April 2019

It's an absolute classic, I'd seen it before, but it's always a good time showing it to new people and seeing their reactions.

Coco -  8 April 2019

Another nice Disney movie, there's not much else to say on this one, it was very nice, but pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

Dragged Across Concrete - 9 April 2019

S. Craig Zahler is one of my favourite directors around at the moment, Brawl on Cellblock 99 and Bone Tomahawk, are pretty much modern day grindouse movies. They're completely hyperviolent and the best time if you're into that sort of thing. Dragged Across Concrete was pretty good too, but for some reason it just didn't have the same magic to it.

Black Dynamite - 10 April 2019

I've seen this movie more times than I can count. It's probably the funniest movie ever made.

Searching for Sugarman -  11 April 2019

A documentary about a singer that nobody has heard of. It tells the great story of a guy who made music, but never found success. But his albums were extremely popular in South Africa, selling "more than Elvis", despite his huge overseas succes, he never made any money. It's a great watch and a genuinely sad story.

Slaughterhouse Rulez - 12 April 2019

Meh

Shazam! - 12 April 2019

Meh

Terminator 2 - 13 April 2019

It's one of the all time greats. I used to love this as a youngster and it's just as good as it ever was.

Us - 13 April 2019

It was alright, quite spooky, pretty cheesy. It kept me entertained, but it really didn't do it for me like Get Out did. Sometimes I couldn't really take it seriously.

Sherlock Holmes (2004) - 15 April 2019

It was kind of dull.

Bee and Puppycat - 16 April 2019

Super cute short TV show. Extremely wholesome. Good stuff.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai - 18 April 2019

This one is confusing to me. I thought it was going to be some dumb B movie because of its dumb B movie title. But I guess it was an intelligent B movie. I don't know if I can give it that much credit either. It was about a hitman who communicates using carrier pidgeons and is friends with the local icecream man, also his name is Ghost Dog and he likes to read books about samurai. This was genuinely quite a good movie. I think it was just riding the line between being good and still having an insane amount of nonsense in it.

Penguin Highway - 19 April 2019

A wholesome anime about supernatural penguins. It's real cute.

Tekkon Kinkreet - 19 April 2019

Another anime about gangs, it's got a great artistic style, but honsetly not much else going for it.

Slut in a Good Way - 19 April 2019

You know how it is with these saucy French movies.

Police Squad - 20 April 2019

6 episodes of hilarity. It's a good time.

Sexy Beast - 20 April 2019

I watched this again with my dad, it's still the best heist movie ever made.

Funky Forest - 20 April 2019

You know how it is with those weird Japanese movies.

What's Eatinng Gilbert's Grape - 21 April 2019

This one was a little depressing.

Dong - 24  April 2019

A great Taiwanese film about two people with a hole in the ground between their apartments during some sort of quarantine. It's an odd one but it's quite nice.

Ronal The Barbarian - 24 April 2019

A dumb animation about barbarians, it was very crude. I was entertained.

Yamasong: March of the Hollows - 26 April 2019

We don't talk about this one.

Rilakkkuma and Kauru - 27 April 2019

Another short  and cute little series. There really isn't much to say about these ones, but it's just an extremely cute show. Very comfortable.

In Bruges - 28 April 2019

Watched this one again, I think I mentioned it in my top ten films list. It's still the best.

The Skin I Live In - 29 April 2019

This was great.  Lots of good twists and drama. Some spooky stuff too. Everything that's neccesary in a goood thriller.

The Holy Mountain - 30 April 2019

Another weird one.  Theres so much going on in this movie and it's all great. None of it makes any real sense, but at the same time, it all drives towards a lot of deeper meaning.

Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse - 3 May 2019

I just watched this again because Chris had a screening for it, I've  already mentioned it somwhere.

Uzumaki - 3 May 2019

Another wierd Japanese movie. It's a horror movie about spirals. It has one of the silliest premises ever, it's extremely entertaining though. I read the manga a while back and that is genuinely quite scary.

Seven Psychopaths - 4 May 2019

From the director of In Bruges, this is another one of  my favourites. This guy sure knows how to wrtie a screenplay.

The Devils - 6 May 2019

A crazy movie about religion. What a good time. Crocodiles were trown out windows, towns were leveled, people were executed and it was all based on a ture story. Those were the days.

A clockwork Orange - 8 May 2019

I wouldn't say it's Stanley's best work, but it was a good time too.

The Handmaiden - 8  May 2019

Lots of twists and turns in this one too, it makes for a great watch.

Climax - 10 May 2019

It was pretty boring, even when it came to it's climax hehe.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 11 May 2019

Wes Anderson always makes fun movies. They're all a bit too Wes Anderson for my liking though, it's a good time anyway.

Easy A - 11 May 2019

eeeh.
