Weekly Movies #5

This weeks weekly movie was Escape From New York, another one of my favorites. I love this movie, a classic cheesy 80s action flick. There's so much lovely dystopian stuff with lots of great and strange characters. I feel like it was a little bit slow though, it doesn't really entertain a crowd as well as Dead-Alive did.

The Frightners - 21 May 2019

Another Pete Jackson movie. This one wasn't nearly as interesting as his other early movies, the budget was too high I guess. It was still a good time, but it didn't have that same charm to it.

FLCL - 22 May 2019

A great 6 episode anime about growing up. I love this one, I've seen it a few times and it's always fresh. It's so wild and it moves so fast, with so many things that don't make any logical sense, but make complete emotional sense. There are scenes where the animators just decide to use all of the episodes budget on some incredible 3d camerawork on a completely meaningless shot pretty much just because they can. They do such a great job making it so frantic, with so many things going on but at the same time having such a grounded story.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand - 23 May 2019

This is a good bit of fun. It's nice to see what Robert Zemeckis was up to before his big break. It's a nice movie about how crazy people were about The Beatles. It covers everything from the screaming girls who'll do anything to sniff Paul's bedsheets to the hipsters who hate The Beatles because they're popular. Good times.

Sad Hill Unearthed - 24 May 2019

A great documentary about The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It features a team of people who rebuild the iconic graveyard set. Not much else happens, but it's an interesting watch as a fan.

Troll 2 - 24 May 2019

It's awesome.

Unforgiven - 25 May 2019

Another Clint Eastwood western. It's nice to see Clint as an older fellow, doing his western stuff, it feels like a good sendoff. But you know it's not even close to as good as the dollars trilogy.

  1. I'm really happy that you're educating yourself about animation, movies, games, and tv by watching and reviewing stuff outside of class. Start thinking more deeply about what you're watching- why is it good? Would you like to make something like it? What kinds of shots/lighting/editing etc resonate with you?
