World Animation

George studdy  (UK) - This man pioneered the commersialisation of animation. He made comics that got enough popularity, so I guess someone let him make some animated shorts. These shorts were about a character Bonzo.

Fernand Leger (FRANCE) - Avant garde animation, mixture of painting on film, stop motion and live action.
Ballet Mecanique 1924 - it's definitely is avant garde, I'll give him that much.

Walter Ruttman (GERMANY) - worked on abstract cimema, called it painting with time.
Opus 1 - Basically lots of colours moving around, it's genuinely really nice to look at, a lot of these early animations are quite harsh, but this is quite smooth and calming.

Lotte Reiniger (GERMANY) - Used multiple plane camera to give animation depth, using parallax scroll.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed - Black cutout silhouettes, looks like shadow puppets , it's an interesting style. Then she used some sort of watercolours or something for the particle effects, it's a crazy effect, it looks genuinely spooky. The character designs on the silhouettes is great too, they've got so much expression without having a face.

Hans Richter (GERMANY) - combined live action with animation.
Rhythmus 21 - It's just squares, it's interesting though, it could be the opening credits to a James Bond flick or something.

Viking Eggeling (GERMANY) "An experiment set to discover the organisation of time "
Symphonie Diagonale - It's just more shapes moving around.

Ladislaw Srarewicz (FRANCE/ RUSSIA) - First animated feature
Tale of the Fox - Creepy stop motion french monkey looking guys. The animals all look great, they're real creepy looking.

Berthold Bartosch (FRANCE) - cutout animations, the poor guy made an anti war film that was destroyed in the war.
L'ldee 1932 - The cutouts he use look like real people, it's extremely odd. I don't like it. I mean, they look good, but it's just strange.

Alexandre Alexeieff & Claire Parker (FRANCE/ RUSSIA) -
This one is incredible, some of the shots almost look 3d, the moving camera angles are insane.

Anthony Gross & Hector Hoppin (FRANCE/ UK/ US)
The Joy of Living - It gives off that extremely wholesome carefree vibe that the name implies, it's extremely wholesome stuff.

Aleksandr Ptushko (RUSSIA) -
The New Gulliver - a Gulliver's Travels adaptation with a lot of puppets. The puppets are real creepy looking, they've even got their own cute little car.

Ivan Ivanov-vano
The Little Lumpback Horse- This one looks great, the landscapes and the waves all look incredible, the characters are kind of lame though. The horse animation and its hair look so good though. It's running around like crazy.

Oskar Fishinger (GERMANY) - The Nazis tried to ban abstract stuff, but this guy made it through the sensors.
Composition in blue - this is great to watch, it's extremely pleasing A E S T H E T I C

Norman McLaren (UK)
The blobs and dots on screen move with the music, it's a lot of fun. It's pretty enchanting.

Halas & Batchelor (UK/ HUNGARY)
Automania 2000 - This one genuinely feels fresh, it wouldn't be out of place among Saturday morning cartoons like The Powerpuff Girls. It's got such a fun, clean style. This was a great short film.

Larkins Studio (UK) - Information films, no entertainment. Angular style.
It's real intense. You've got voice over guy yelling about 'a dragon of iron' while animations of heavy machinery play. It's such a fun style, even though at the time it was serious, it's got that lovely cheesy vibe to it that'd be real fun to pay homage to.

Wan Brothers (CHINA)
It's crazy, the characters are extremely expressive, and they're always yelling at each other in a language I don't understand. It's interesting.

Kenzo Masaoka (JAPAN)
This one is a lot of fun, that spider is extremely creepy looking and he sings that fantastic happy sounding song, (I mean, I don't actually know what he's singing about but it sounds fun)

EVIL MICKEY - this one is insane.
